The Heirloom Foods Story

Heirloom Foods began under the name Dan and Becky’s Market and was opened by Dan and Becky Bravinder in the fall of 2003 on their 10-acre farm. The goal of the market was to fulfill a need in the area for organic, bulk, and unique foods.

Farming As A Family

Becky’s family has farmed the land for four generations, so it was no surprise when it became a multigenerational project to take down the old calf barn and construct a store in its place, of course keeping the silo as a reminder of what was once there. The dream has grown into a daily reality and has expanded to a full service organic grocery market, with an emphasis on local and clean food. Heirloom Foods is also an extension of the family’s faith, and it is an important aspect that they are forming impactful relationships with customers while also nourishing the community with both food and human connection.

Because farming is also a part of their lives, you will see Becky feeding animals, gathering eggs, or picking fresh herbs out of the gardens for a customer (Dan is done with his chores long before the store opens). Their life is full of blessings from the Lord, and upon visiting the market, don’t be surprised if you see any of their four married children and their spouses, eighteen grandchildren, or extended family and friends visiting or helping out on the farm or in the store.

Real Food With Family & Friends

Supplements and packaged foods are a small part of the inventory with the bulk of it being in “pantry” foods and fresh produce. Getting back into the kitchen to make real food and eating at the table with family and friends is a big part of Heirloom Foods’ philosophy.

In 2022, Dan and Becky’s daughter and son-in-law, Alicia and Keno Walkes, decided to come alongside them to help manage and grow the business. In 2024, the name was changed to Heirloom Foods. An heirloom is defined as something valuable that has belonged to a family for several generations. This name speaks to and represents the farm and the business as a whole, and the impact they both have had on the family for generations.
